InsideDefense is reporting that lawmakers on key defense committees are expressing concern over how the Pentagon has budgeted its $58.6 billion FY2015 OCO request, worried that the fund “has become a way of skirting base budget restrictions.”
Rep Mac Thornberry (R-TX), chair of the House Armed Services Committee, told Inside the Pentagon on June 26 that “The bottom line is we need adequate funding in the base budget. It’s not good practice to use OCO for that funding.”
We applaud this positive step in the right direction and will be watching further develoopments in OCO funding and (we hope) reform. Stay tuned.
