SOUTH BURLINGTON — The South Burlington City Council plans to reconsider its decision of May 2012 to oppose the basing of the F-35 at Burlington International Airport.

Last year, the council formally opposed the basing by a vote of 4-1, but two new councilors were elected this year and former Council Chairwoman Rosanne Greco said the handwriting is on the wall and the council is likely to reverse its decision. “We’ll lose,” she said of the opponents of the basing.

Council Chairwoman Pat Mackenzie said the special meeting on the F-35 basing will begin at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 8, either in Chamberlin School or Tuttle Middle School.

Opponents of the basing have continued their public opposition to the basing over the past year and drew more than 400 people to a meeting at the Unitarian-Universalist Church in late May. They plan another public meeting at the Church in early July.
