I was thrilled to attend the Raleigh City Council meeting Jan. 15 where council members passed a Bring the War Dollars Home proclamation to send to our N.C. congressional delegation.
I was proud that our capital city has local leadership that recognizes how spending on wars along with other excessive Pentagon expenditures takes money away from local services and infrastructure, harming our ability to provide adequately for our needs at the local level. These misplaced priorities have caused layoffs and shortfalls in our schools, housing partnerships and veteran care, and resulted in Wake County having one in six children living in poverty.
Dr. Joe Burton, Raleigh resident and N.C. Peace Action board member, coordinated the effort that helped lead our local officials to stand up for changing priorities nationally. Through their vote, Raleigh leaders have called for a change.
