There is a “concerted effort” by Department of Defense (DoD) officials to “willfully breach laws and congressional mandates” that called for better tracking of service contracts, according to a letter sent by POGO yesterday.
Rather than implementing an effective tracking system, DoD is “shirking its total force management responsibilities” and “perpetuating billions of dollars in unnecessary service contracting costs,” POGO wrote.
POGO asked the Secretary of Defense to review whether actions taken by DoD officials are in compliance with the law and congressional mandates, evaluate whether DoD offices are contracting out inherently governmental functions, and investigate whether false or misleading statements were provided to Congress and federal watchdogs.
