In New Haven, voters were asked to vote on the question: “Shall Congress reduce military spending; transfer funds to convert to civilian production; create jobs to rebuild our infrastructure; meet pressing human needs?”
According to the Registrar of Voters’ Office, 23,398 city residents voted “yes,” while 4,152 voted “no.”
While city officials have acknowledged such issues aren’t under local control, the idea behind putting the question on the ballot was to provide ammunition, so when members of Congress support an issue, they can point to data about how their constituents feel on these issues.
